How the Filter Works

When you drop an image in, the script paints it onto a hidden HTML5 Canvas element. As you adjust the slider, it applies a real-time Gaussian filter to the canvas. Gaussian blur works by blending each pixel with its surrounding neighbors using a bell-curve mathematical distribution, creating that buttery smooth, out-of-focus look rather than a jagged pixelated mess.

A Side Benefit: Compression

Interestingly, applying a heavy blur to an image makes it drastically easier for JPG compression algorithms to process. Because you are eliminating sharp edges and high-frequency noise, exporting a blurred image often results in a significantly smaller file size than the original.
